Proton is the world’s first bench top genome sequencer that promises to map a person's genome in one day for under $1000.

Proton was the second instrument to come out in Life's new ID language. The real challenge was to get to the market first with this technology but not compromise on the form, quality and user features.

As lead ID guy at Life Technologies, I did not personally design the form, but managed the external ID team and scope and did a ton of legwork to make this project a reality. I worked very closely with Lance Hussey and Ravi Sawhney of RKS who did a great job on the form, tying it to the design language format. My innovation on the fascia, and handle construction allowed Proton™ to make it to CES in time for the show. I also created the master branding and personally created most of the animations of the product for advertising purposes.

Proton received Forbes and PC Magazine’s “coolest thing” designation at CES 2012 and won a Red Dot and IDEA award.

Viia series of PCR machine was the archetype used to create the new ID language for Life Technologies. It was the first production product to incorporate the new design language and started Life on the path to a iconic and cohesive brand feel that is still going strong 6 years later.

Like Proton, I was lead ID guy at life and worked closely with RKS to see thru changes to this design as it evolved into a more buildable and scalable design. I oversaw an additional 5 projects in the new design language before leaving Life Technologies.

OneTouch was a companion product used to prepare samples for the Ion Proton. It was the third project in the new design language and was the first ultra low cost version of the design language to be attempted. I had a major influence on this design including material choice, branding, manufacturing method and manufacturing vendor.

The design language has been in constant use since 2011 with many new products created across all categories, even years after Life was purchased by Fischer Scientific.
